Standards
Development Centre (SDC),
Formerly
PSI, and then the National Standards Body of Pakistan was established
at Karachi in 1951. The Head Office of this Centre is located at Karachi
while the regional offices are located at Karachi (Sindh), Lahore (Punjab),
Peshawar (NWFP), Quetta (Balochistan) with total staff of 152 personnel
(36 scientists and engineers). Self-financing:
Self finance institution since 1999. As
per notification issued by Govt. of Pakistan, all the ISO Standards
(About 14000) have been directly adopted as Pakistan Standards. All
Pakistan Standards, developed earlier, are being reviewed and the standards
which can be replaced by ISO standards would be re-designated and only
those standards would be retained as Pakistan Standard which are specific
to our local products, raising number of Pakistan Standards to about
15,000. Certification
Marks Scheme: At present operating with 46 domestic Products (include
edible oils, Banaspati Ghee, Drinking Water, Portland cement oil pressure
stoves, biscuits, electric items and building materials etc.). During
last five years, inspections were made and new licenses were issued
/ renewed; Registration of Inspection Agencies; registered Agencies
