National Mirror Committee
on Environmental Management Meets
at PSQCA Head Office
The first meeting of National Mirror Committee (NMC) on Environmental Management of Pakistan Standard and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of Pakistan was held on 16th October 2012 at PSQCA’s Head Office-Karachi. The committee unanimously elected Prof. Dr. Muhammad Irfan Khan of International Islamic University as Chairman, Mr. Ismail Suttar, CEO of M/s. Hub Pak Salt Refinery - Karachi as Vice Chairman, Mr. Kanwar Muhammad Javed Iqbal of Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI)- Islamabad as convener and Mr. Khawja Gulam Mohiuddin of PSQCA as Secretary of the committee.
PSQCA has constituted this NMC with the composition of different stakeholders representing academia, industries, private institutions, CSOs and policy institutions etc. The scope of the committee is standardization in the field of environmental management systems and tools in support of sustainable development. The NMC will develop national standards and evaluate the international standards on various aspects of environment developed by International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and other regional & International standard bodies. The committee will also give recommendations for the adoption or rejection of any standard under its scope. The NMC will play a pivotal role in promotion of international trade and sustainable development for promotion of green economy in Pakistan through bridging gaps between policy, standards, technical regulations and its implementations related to national and international initiatives. The NMC realized the importance of regulators on environment and recommended to take on board to all regulators under the scope of the NMC to strengthen the work of the committee. The committee will meet on quarterly basis and next meeting will be convened in Islamabad on 13th – 14th of December 2012. The committee has representation from Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, National Institute of Oceanography, NESPAK Ltd., Attock Refinery Ltd., National Refinery Ltd., Cisco, Veloci Pakistan, ConsTech, Kausar Group of Companies, Noon Pakistan Pvt. Ltd., Hamdard labs (waqf) Pakistan, Pak-Hy. Oils Ltd., K&Ns Foods (Pvt.) Ltd., Fluid Technology International Pvt. Ltd., SDPI, Thal Engineering Pvt.
